Ribbon Cutting, $1K Donation: Planet Fitness Opens In Forest Hills – Patch.com

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Since opening several weeks ago, Forest Hills’ newest gym has been getting to work.
Planet Fitness Forest Hills opened on the ground-floor of a Queens Boulevard luxury building last month, and, in the time since, it’s been trying to integrate into the neighborhood — welcoming a group of local leaders for a ribbon cutting and donating $1,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Queens.
Ebony Young, Deputy Queens Borough President, said in a statement that the community-focused ethos of Planet Fitness is what appeals to her about the gym.
“Working out with everyone matters to me,” she said. “I want to be with my people. I want to be with the community, so that’s why I have chosen to get my own Black Card Membership.”
Young’s membership — which costs $25 per-month — is a tier above Planet Fitness’ Classic Membership, meaning it affords gym goers with extra amenities. The Classic Membership, though, sill ensures unlimited access to the Queens Boulevard location and free training for just $10 per-month (plus a $1 deposit and $40 annual fee).
“It’s so important for folks to have a place to come to get a basic workout in that’s affordable,” said Forest Hills Councilwoman Lynn Schulman, who also services as the Council’s health committee chair.
“This is a place where you can come and not feel intimidated and as an older person, I find that especially appealing,” she added.
In addition to its community-focus and cheap memberships, Planet Fitness has branded itself as a “no judgement zone” — a place where everyone can enjoy working out.
James Innocenti, chief operating officer of PF Supreme LLC, said he’s excited to bring that mentality to Forest Hills.
“No matter your fitness level, our new Planet Fitness club has something for everyone,” he said in a statement.
While the gym is free of judgement, it is full of cardio and strength machines, televisions and a spa for Black Card members (photos here).
Planet Fitness Forest Hills is open and staffed 24 hours a day from Monday through Friday and open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The Queens Boulevard outpost will be the gym’s seventh location in Queens, but its first in Forest Hills.
Its other locations are located in Jamaica, Howard Beach, Jackson Heights, Astoria, and Long Island City.
