The BCCI selection committee announced a 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. The selectors also announced the squads for the T20I series at home against Australia and South Africa. Mohammed Shami who was expected to be named in the main squad has been named in the reserves alongside Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar.
Barring Shami, the rest of the squad has been named on expected lines with the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. Ravindra Jadeja is all set to miss the T20 World Cup owing to a freak injury that he picked up midway through the Asia Cup. He has completed a successful surgery and will be missing the rest of the year looking to regain his fitness.
A total of 45 games will be played during the tournament including the qualifier and super 12 rounds. The qualifiers start on October 16 with Sri Lanka and Namibia will lock horns with each other while UAE and Netherlands will face each other in the other match.
The Super 12 round starts on October 22 with Australia facing New Zealand in the opening game in Sydney. India will play their first match against Pakistan on October 23. Meanwhile, the board can still change the squad if they want to. There are positions open for a few players to be considered in place of some others who have not had a good run in T20Is recently.
In this article, we try and figure out three players who can still be eliminated from the Indian squad ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Pant has not shown good form in recent times in T20Is. He played almost all the matches in the Asia Cup and did not come up with a match-winning performance in any of the games.
While no one has questioned his quality as a player, there have been questions raised about his batting position and his role in the team. Indian cricket fans expected to see Sanju Samson in place of Pant as they felt that the right-hander deserved his place in the side.
